I hope I got your attention, as I am about to drop a bombshell.
Spot reduction does not work – I repeat and in caps for emphasis – SPOT REDUCTION DOES NOT WORK!
For years we have been bombarded with info-commercials and ads – promising us to lose 10 pounds in just 1 week, or rock hard abs in only 1min per day, or to stand on vibrating platforms to miraculously shred the kilos without lifting a finger – more on this one later!!
Unfortunately these companies are making huge $$ by selling false hope and promises to those that are desperate to achieve their goals.
The ability to spot reduce has been researched heavily in the exercise science world, with clear evidence that states:
“Exercise does not cause weight loss in the specific area that is exercised”
Basically fat is a fuel – and if we think of it as fuel, like the fuel tank of your car – its impossible to drive a certain way that only one side of the tank gets emptied.
It sucks I know – but its the truth.
When we exercise we use our stored fuel globally – we release hormones that allow stored fat/carbs to be released into the blood stream and taken to the muscles that need it. It comes from everywhere – not just our targeted area (ie waist line).
People often get disheartened when their target area doesn’t seem to change -despite their efforts.
What I think happens in this scenario, is that as a whole your fat is reducing, but the largest area is always the largest area in comparison to other body parts – so it doesn’t look like your efforts are working. Trust me, they are working – so keep it up!
So back to the special abby dabby roller thing-a-ma-gig from TV – I’m not saying that they don’t work – as having that new piece of equipment at home just might help you to get motivated and eat healthy/exercise – which is where the real results come in.
